Bio & Headshot

Well Hello there! If you've stumbled your way to this blog WELCOME! I'm a widwestern gal who is darn crafty. I love taking all kinds of pictures,  but taking funny ones of myself are my favourite. I am a t.v. and movie addict who can remeber all kinds of movie history, actors names, dates and trivia, however, I cannot seem to remember where I put my purse, keys and sometimes my children!

To learn more about me you can get a backstage tour by clicking on the different links and visiting the bio/headshot area.

Happy Thanksgiving!

I Wanted to share a Thanksgiving story with you. What do you do when your Thanksgiving table scape nearly burns the house down? Why you embrace it of course!

Let us go back in time  to the Thanksgiving of 2004. It was as tradition has had it for the past 14 years, Thanksgiving at our house. Tradition is quite bountiful at this time of year, we make the same stuffing recipe, we make two birds, and we make something we eat for the first and last time of the year- cheesy peas and carrots. In breaking with tradition slightly, I decorate the the main dinning room differently from year to year. This  paticular year I went all out. I entwined raffia and berry branches through a maze of layered pumpkins. The linens were newly purchased, pressed crisp and dressed with their finest china.

The cutlery was polished and stemware was gleaming. Then out came the big guns- the hurricane candle holders.Something you should know, I don't like surprise additions to my table scapes. For example, please don't bring a real flower arrangment as a hostess gift and expect me to use it in my display. It is not going to happen.

Now fast forward through my channeling " Martha" and know that we serve dinner like a buffet, however, I set the table as if we are going to sit down for a family style dinner. Rather than behave like the "bump asses" ( the dogs from the movie a  Christmas  Story ) we really are, I like to create a false sense of decorum. Prior to the inhalation of the meal,I call everyone  in to ooooooohhhhh and aaaaahhhhhh over the table design. We then grab our plates and hit the food line. As I said we are big time tradition at this time of year, so  in keeping with tradition, my mother in law now arrives late and has shown up with a contribution to the table scape; little glass turkey candle holders. I must have been intoxicated by the turkey's l- tryptophan fumes because I welcomed those right onto the table and lit them.

What happens next is a bit of a blur. I remember the sounds of laughter through muffled mouthfuls of food. I can remember coming to in the kitchen, with a sudden sensation of water as I found myself cleaning up the remains of our feast. I felt a chill so I looked over my shoulder to see if the fireplace was still roaring, but it was out. A flash of light caught my eye in the kitchen window, which I soon recognized as a flame, but the flame was not coming out of the fireplace, so where was it coming from????          THE DINNING ROOM!!!!!

My glorious display was on fire! I screamed for my husband, ran to the room to stop my aunt from fanning the flames with my new place mats and whipped open the dinning room sliding glass doors just as my husband arrived with a pot of water to douse the flames with.

The events of that
thanksgiving are will forever be" Burned" into my memory. In the end the only damage was to the center of the table, all the linens, and the entire table scape display.

So, on the following Thanksgiving I decided to embrace the  ensuing years worth of jokes and ribbing I took over nearly burning the house down, and decided to embrace it.

From the pictures below you will understand the following years table scape!

Have a beautiful holiday everyone

First of all, find Adam Sandler's Thanksgiving song. It is as funny as his hannukah song.

I love this story. It is perfect that you looked at what was a horrible situation and made it work for you. I am anxious to see what your table looked like this year. I know this was a sad thanksgiving because it was the first without your mom. I am glad to know that everyone enjoyed themselves.

Where is the gobble gobble you were talking about?
